Dr. Farshad Rajabipour was appointed Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on August 1, 2007.  Prior to his appointment at UH, he was a visiting professor of civil engineering at Purdue University, where he obtained a Ph.D. with a focus on construction materials. At UH, he is teaching courses on construction materials with emphasis on cement and concrete.  His research areas include development of durable and high-performance construction materials and non-destructive testing and health monitoring of concrete.  He is an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Dr. Tao Yan was appointed Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on August 1, 2007.  Prior to his appointment at UH, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the BioTechnology Institute at the  University of Minnesota, where he had obtained a Ph.D. in the environmental engineering. At UH, he is teaching courses on environmental microbiology, and hazardous waste management.  His research areas include environmental microbiology, molecular microbial ecology, environmental genomics, soil/sediment bioremediation, and fate and transport of waterborne pathogens. He is a member of the American Society of Microbiology.
