March 2020

The Civil Engineering Graduate Program is on the top 5th in Graduate Majors with the most international students  in Spring 2020 per UHM International Student Services (ISS) statics release. This is the consecutive 7th semester which the CE grad program has made the top five (5) in international student enrollment systemwide since Fall 2017. Congrats and Mahalo to all and Graduate Chair Dr. Roger Babcock!

“We are pleased to be the featured research news in the spring 2020 CSET Newsletter” commented Dr. Panos Prevedouros , Dept. Chair and PI of Driving Behavior and Traffic Safety Perceptions project, “In addition to Diana Moana Nomura (current BSCE), I’d like to acknowledge the rest of the hard working field crew: Rafaela De Melo Barros (graduated MS), Flavia Nunes Duque de Medeiros (current MS), Arianna Kirschenbaum (current BSCE), Abdulrahman Alghamdi (current MS), and Tribikram Rajaure (current MS). Visiting professor Dr. Xi Zhuo also contributed to this effort”. Congratulations!

We are proud of our PhD graduate Kamal Gautam for his inclusion in the 70 most influential international experts in hydropower and dams by the International Water Power and Dam Construction Magazine. His contributions were summarized as follows:”Dr Kamal Guatam is included on the list for his work on hydropower projects in Uganda. Dr. Gautam was inexecution of Karuma (600 MW) and Isimba (183 MW) projects at the early stage of construction (2015) by thoroughly auditing these two projects and recommending various fundamental corrective actions to steer the projects into right direction. Dr. Gautam was also instrumental during the planning and improving the engineering of Muzizi (48 MW)”
